WHAT IS AIKIDO?
Aikido is a martial art. But unlike other martial arts (like karate, judo, kendo...) it has no competitions so it is not a sport. It is technically not possible to make competitions in aikido because it is defense martial art and levers on joints are very dangerous if someone starts to resist. But what is more important - the philosophy of aikido is harmony, not conflict so it can not fit in any competition between two people.
Aikido practice contains breathing exercises, physical techniques, school of jo (wooden stick), school of boken (wooden sword that mimics the Japanese katana) and school of tanto (knife defense). Aikido techniques are based on throwing or fixation using levers on joints. Read more about Aikido practice.
